Together with the launch of the Child Alert system implemented by the Commander-in-Chief of the Police, a special emergency number 995 was launched.
Information about the need to ensure proper routing of calls to a newly established emergency number was passed by UKE to telecommunications undertakings and published on the UKE website in the form of Emergency Number Routing Tables (NKA), based on which telecommunications undertakings obtain information as to appropriate routing of emergency calls.
The update to the Emergency Number Routing Tables was preceded by amendment to the national numbering plan resulting from the provisions of the Ordinance of the Minister of Administration and Digitization on the national numbering plan for public telecommunications networks over which publicly available telephone services are provided. The Ordinance has been in force since 20 November 2013 and it was published in the Official Journal under item 1281.
The Child Alert is an emergency system which launches a coordinated and immediate search action in cases of kidnapping. The system involves all available information channels in the search action and information about a missing child is instantly distributed. The child's image is published via TV or radio stations and Internet. Noticeboards are placed in public places such as bus or railway stations and airports. The Child Alert emergency system operates in 11 EU countries.
The launch of a Child Alert system is a European initiative aimed at increasing effectiveness of search actions of missing children by involving wide public, media and non-governmental organizations.
