BEREC Contact Network (CN) meeting in Cracow

The Contact Network (CN) meeting of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) took place on 4 and 5 February 2016 in Cracow.  This time the meeting was hosted by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE).


During the meeting representatives of the EU Regulatory Authorities and the European Commission discussed documents that had recently been worked on by the following BEREC Expert Working Groups:

  • Regulatory Framework (Report on OTT Services),
  • Benchmarking (Report on European benchmarking of OTT indicators, Information Sharing Portal),
  • Net Neutrality (information about the works on Guidelines),
  • Roaming (Report on the wholesale roaming market, Guidelines on the application of the Roaming Regulation, International Roaming Benchmark Data Report),
  • Next Generation Networks (Report on  the Internet of Things, Report on the outcome of the BEREC Expert Workshop on regulatory implications of NFV and SDN - Network Functions Virtualisation and Software-Defined Networking).

During the two-day meeting participants have discussed a number of issues of a substantive nature. They have reviewed all the recent activities and summed up the BEREC activity in the previous year in the form of Annual Report 2015. They have also been informed about the operation of the BEREC Office, the Community body located in Riga, which provides support services to BEREC.

The documents discusses at the CN level will later be approved by the Heads of the Regulatory Authorities at the Plenary Meeting held at the end of February. The BEREC CN meeting was preceded by a short session of the Independent Regulators Group (IRG), during which Regulators meet among themselves.

    The President of the Office of Electronic Communications (President of UKE) is the national regulatory authority for the market of telecommunications and postal services. The President of UKE is also the specialised authority in the area of equipment conformity assessment, including telecommunications terminal equipment and radio equipment.
