Europeans will have fast broadband internet till 2020


The European Commission submitted guidelines for Internet access policy.


20 September 2010 the Commission published a report on broadband access to Internet (Broadband Communication).
It is part of the European Digital Agenda about which we informed the public in our press release of 19 May 2010.

The communication outlines the objective to provide all inhabitants of the EU with Internet access of 30 Mb/s capacity while at least 50% of European households will gain Internet access of 100 Mb/s capacity.

According to the communication, in 2011 the Commission and the European Investment Bank are going to submit proposals to finance the construction of broadband networks.
The Commissioner in charge of the Digital Agenda, Ms Neelie Kroes stated:
„Fast Internet is like digital oxygen, indispensible for the health and wellbeing of Europe. The measures presented will enable the Europeans to benefit form Internet of the highest quality - the Internet they expect and deserve, which will let them access the content and services they wish to use."
