Before Holidays – what is worth knowing?

The Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) once again takes part in the information campaign titled „Before Holidays – what is worth knowing?” that is implemented jointly by tens of public institutions. It aims at drawing consumers’ attention to outstanding issues that may be important during summer leisure time.

The Global Symposium for Regulators responsible for the telecommunications markets discusses regulatory challenges for the next years

From 8 to 12 June, the annual global meeting of heads and experts from regulatory authorities responsible for the telecommunications markets is taking place in Gabon. The main theme of this year's symposium is how the regulators should respond to challenges related to investment in ICT infrastructure to ensure that new services and applications are developed, enhancing the opportunities for global digital society to grow.

In Geneva the World Summit on Information Society – WSIS Forum 2015, held from 25th May 2015 until 29th May 2015, came to an end. It was attended by over 1800 participants representing approximately 140 countries.

Examining the run-time of postal parcels acquired with respect to the universal services in domestic turnover for 2014

The President of UKE, fulfilling the obligation, resulting from the provisions of the Act of 23 November 2012. – the Postal Law (The Journal of Laws of 2012 item 1529) to examine the  run time of postal items obtained by the designated operator in a given year in terms of universal services in domestic turnover, entrusted carrying out the 2014 survey of the unregistered letter mail run-time to the organization specialized in market surveys. In contrast, the postal parcels run-time control was carried out on the basis of data obtained from the computer system for tracking postal items used by the Polish Post (Poczta Polska S.A.) .

The Polish postal market has been subjected to systematic changes in recent years as a result of the gradual market liberalization as well as business and residential customers’ demand on postal services.

On 27 May 2015 the President of the Office of Electronic Communications, Magdalena Gaj, received a prestigious award - Gold Medal awarded by the ITU Secretary General in gratitude for the continuous engagement in the long-standing WSIS (World Summit of Information Society) process and chairing the WSIS Forum 2015.

During the ongoing World Summit on Information Society Forum 2015 (WSIS Forum 2015) held in Geneva, the President of UKE Magdalena Gaj has been appointed as the Chairman of the Forum - High-Level Track component.

Market products control – the recapitulation of 2014

In 2014, the President of UKE audited 1610 products subjected to the electromagnetic compatibility requirements (EMC), the  requirements set for Radio & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R & TTE) and the EcoDesign requirements associated with energy saving devices which are not in constant use.

International Telecommunication Union’s 150th Anniversary

17th May 1865 in Paris with the signature of the first International Telegraph Convention and establishment of the then International Telegraph Union (ITU) – the oldest contemporary UN agency and one of the oldest international organizations in the world. The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated on 17th May each year to commemorate that important date.

The European Commission has launched a GIPO (Global Internet Policy Observatory) website. It will give a wide range of stakeholders the possibility to participate in discussions on the future of the Internet.

Marie Curie–Sklodowska, a distinguished Polish chemist, mother and the first female professor at the Sorbonne, was a passionate scientist who made a scientific career achievable for countless girls around the world. She was awarded two Nobel Prizes in a century when only men gained public recognition for scientific research.

On 28th and 29th April 2015, UKE hosted a delegation of the National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization of Ukraine. The visit was organized under TAIEX programme financed by the European Union.

A list of offers in the contest for MUX-8

Four companies have submitted offers in the contest announced by the President of UKE on 12th March 2015, for one general frequency licence (TV channels with a 7 MHz width) in the 174-230 MHz band used in the radiocommunication broadcasting service, in the whole country, intended for terrestrial digital broadcasting or re-broadcasting of TV programs in multiplex 8 (MUX-8).

    The President of the Office of Electronic Communications (President of UKE) is the national regulatory authority for the market of telecommunications and postal services. The President of UKE is also the specialised authority in the area of equipment conformity assessment, including telecommunications terminal equipment and radio equipment.

    International activity of the President of UKE consists of, inter alia, cooperation with the European Commission, other EU institutions and Regulatory Authorities of EU Member State. It includes also the cooperation within organizations of which UKE is a member, i.e. the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the Body for European Regulators of Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the European Committee for Postal Regulation (CERP).
