An analysis of bundled services’ prices in Poland

The prices offered in 2014 were in the majority of cases lower than in 2012. Average cost of the ‘television + Internet’ package in 2014 was lower by PLN 15 than the one offered in 2012 under an agreement for 12 months, and by PLN 30 in the case of two-year commitment period. However, the biggest difference was visible in the case of minimum prices under an agreement for two years. The difference between 2014 and 2012 amounted to PLN 37.

 

Within this study the prices of bundled services available on the Polish market were analysed. The analysis of prices covered 2014 and was carried out on the basis of price lists and regulations which were up-to-date as of 29 December 2014. Average monthly costs of the use of packages and payments for the first month of agreement were compared.

Information about the offers presented in the introduction of the analysis, which allowed for the determination of a general overview of Polish bundled services market is of 2013 and comes from the Report on the condition of the telecommunications market in Poland in 2013.

Entrepreneurs, who at the end of 2013 held the highest share in bundled services market according to the number of subscribers, were selected for the analysis.

Bundled service was defined as selling at least two telecommunications services in a package, available for one price and reconciled within one account. According to the Report on the condition of the telecommunications market in Poland in 2013, circa 2.4 million subscribers used bundled services at the end of 2013. “TV + Internet” (45.6%) and the triple play package “Fixed telecommunication + Internet + TV” (28.3%) were the most frequently chosen packages.

The study includes offers of the following operators which in 2013 held more than 1% share in the number of subscribers:

  • UPC Polska Sp. z o.o.
  • Vectra S.A.
  • Orange Polska S.A.
  • Netia S.A. (Telefonia Dialog Sp. z o.o.)
  • Toya Sp. z o.o.
  • Multimedia Polska S.A.
The following types of packages which at the end of 2013 were the most popular in the market (without the “Internet + mobile telephony” package) were subject to the price analysis:

  • Fixed Internet + TV (69 packages),
  • Fixed telephony + TV (17 packages),
  • Fixed Internet + fixed telephony (71 packages),
  • Fixed Internet + fixed telephony + TV (136 packages).
The cost of “Internet + TV” package was PLN 108 on average in the studied period (under an agreement for a year) or PLN 89 (under a two-year agreement). Average rates of a “fixed telephone + TV” package amounted to PLN 93 (12-month commitment period) and PLN 83 (24-month commitment period). A double play “fixed telephone + Internet” package cost was PLN 95 (one-year agreement) or PLN 83 on average (two-year agreement). Average rate for a triple play service (Internet + fixed telephone + TV) amounted to PLN 131 (the service purchased for the period of 12 months) and PLN 110 (the service purchased for the period of 24 months).

In the majority of cases prices offered in 2014 were lower than in 2012. Only in the triple play offer for 12 months the average and maximum rates and the minimum payment for the “TV + Internet” package in a one-year agreement in 2014 were higher than those available in 2012.

The average payment for the “TV + Internet” package in 2014 was lower than the one offered in 2012 by PLN 15 under an agreement for 12 months and by PLN 30 in two-year commitment period. However, the biggest difference was visible in case of minimum prices in a two-year agreement. The difference between 2014 and 2012 amounted to PLN 37.

In case of the “fixed telephony + Internet” package, in the period from 2012 until 2014 the biggest differences occurred in the maximum incurred costs for the use of service. The highest price for the above-mentioned package was lower by PLN 40 and PLN 36 in 2014 in one-year and two-year commitment period, respectively.
