Stimulating innovation, optimisation of knowledge and technology flow between start-ups, academia, government authorities and ICT companies were the topics of a workshop organised by UKE and ITU during the WSIS Forum 2017 in Geneva.

The workshop was attended by Fly Tech UAV, Photon Entertainment, Envelo Poczta Polska Usługi Cyfrowe, 3D Kreator and Notel. Representatives of Polish start-ups chosen in a contest discussed innovation, challenges for the development of their business activity, future in the sector and digital revolution.

The level of start-up development is an indicator of the country's development, and the creation of an environment suitable for innovation provides competitive advantages to the market. In order to create such an environment, developed interactions among big companies, academia, government authorities and start-ups themselves are necessary. The development of an environment fostering innovation is a key element for the development of a modern state. Innovations, especially in the ICT sector, are drivers of a competitive market and economic growth.

The workshop was opened by ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao and the President of UKE, Marcin Cichy with the participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Geneva, Piotr Stachańczyk. Polish experiences and programmes supporting innovation were presented by Mikołaj Rogiński, Counsellor to the President of UKE.
