In accordance with the assumptions of the National Broadband Plan and the requirements of the European Digital Agenda, by the end of 2020 100 percent of Polish households should be offered Internet access of a minimum speed of 30 Mb/s, and half of them to a bit rate of at least 100 Mb/s. The implementation of this task will be supported by the EU funds from the Operational Programme Digital Poland, where over 1 billion EUR was reserved for the construction of access networks. However, subsidies are just one side of the issue. In such projects equally important is to prepare for the investment in terms of technology and business. Therefore the Fibre Optics Academy, commissioned by the Office of Electronic Communications, has developed a "Guide on planning and design of NGA networks" and estimation sheets, which are to help operators planning the development of such networks. The guide was developed as part of the "Information System on Broadband Infrastructure and the Broadband Poland portal” (SIPS).
