ITU-EC Regional Conference for Europe on "Broadband Services and Infrastructure Mapping" takes place in Warsaw, Poland from 11 to 12 April 2016. The Conference is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the European Commission (EC) in partnership with the Office of Electronic Communications.
The conference was opened by Ms Magdalena Gaj - President of the Office of Electronic Communications, Mr Brahima Sanou - Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau and Mr Guido Acchioni representing the European Commission. In their opening speeches they agreed that the inventory of infrastructure is a preliminary stage necessary for the effective development of broadband infrastructure, and that it greatly facilitates future investments. With each passing year Broadband Services are becoming a more and more important feature of the telecommunications market. Infrastructure Mapping is one of the tools to facilitate its development - underlined President Gaj.
The Conference is organized within the framework of the Regional Initiative for Europe on Broadband, approved by the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2014 (WTDC-14). Among others, the achievements of individual ITU member states and the works of the European Commission and the International Telecommunication Union in the area of telecommunications infrastructure inventory will be presented during the meeting. Participants will discuss the development of regional broadband networks and service quality. UKE representatives will share the Office’s experience in the scope of infrastructure mapping, measuring the quality of broadband services, implementation of the Operational Programme Poland Digital and the works on the recently launched broadband services search engine.
More than 100 people will participate in the conference, including representatives of the ITU member states from Europe, the European Commission, ITU and ICT industry.
