Meeting of ITU's Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG)

Prezes UKE i Sekretarz Generalny ITU
On 16-18 March 2016 a meeting of the Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG) took place at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) headquarters in Geneva.

TDAG meeting is of importance for the preparation to the ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-17), which will be held next year. UKE's delegation, led by the President Magdalena Gaj, actively participated in the discussion on the ITU-D activities aimed at the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015. Key tasks of the ITU-D sector include supporting initiatives as well as national and regional projects concerning electronic communications.
During meetings with the ITU Secretary General Mr Houlin Zhao and the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau Mr Brahima Sanou, the President of UKE spoke about initiatives undertaken by Poland to support the development of access to networks and services, i.a. telecommunications infrastructure inventory carried out by UKE. On 11-12 April 2016 Poland will host a regional conference on "Broadband Services and Infrastructure Mapping", organised together with ITU and the European Commission.

Poland takes an active part in the works of the ITU-D sector. UKE cooperates with ITU to build an Interactive Terrestrial (Optical Fibres and Microwaves) Transmission Maps for Poland. Furthermore, UKE carries out bilateral cooperation with chosen countries and electronic communications market regulators to exchange the best practices concerning, among others, investment and regulatory activities aimed at increasing access to telecommunications services and networks. In addition Poland has actively engaged in the "Women in ICT" initiative and every year, during WSIS Forum organised by ITU, conducts national workshop presenting projects implemented in the area of information society. During TDAG discussions Polish delegation noted the importance of information and communication technologies for the building of inclusive information society, and in particular emphasised the relevance of counteracting digital exclusion and developing broadband infrastructure.
